things textbooks ought to teach (2)

another, other and others

Has there ever been an elementary/intermediate student who didn’t say things like:

I saw other person.
I have others things to do.
Can I have other piece?
I need to get out and meet another people.

I have never seen these words formally presented and contrasted in any textbook I’ve ever used. Such a shame.

  1. so very true. "another ….s" must be (one of) the most common and pervasive mistake among brazilian students, and yet we don't see textbooks tackling that.

  2. vixe, comi um S no mistakes. kkk

    Thanks, Natália.
In my groups, I always end up teaching the difference through feedback on writing/speaking activities. But it sure would be nice to see this in a book for a change!

Just love the way you write "Has there ever been…". Congrats again on the posts !

  5. So true! I only get to teach that in feedback – either oral or written… such a shame, isnt it?!
